Botox has been on the market for more than 30 years and is approved by the US FDA for several treatments. It was first introduced to treat people who are cross-eyed and later in the early 90’s it was introduced as a cosmetic procedure. At Rejuvie Clinic we primarily use Botox to reduce wrinkles and to also treat people with excessive sweating and chronic migraines.
Botox is approved for patients over the age of 18 for various treatments.
Botox works by relaxing the muscle to prevent the forming of wrinkles. We start by cleaning the area to be treated; the area is then numbed slightly with an ice pack. The needle used is very thin and only slight to nil discomfort is felt during the procedure. The number of injections and the amount of Botox used depends on the area we are treating, the condition of the skin and the results the patient wishes to achieve.
The average amount of Botox used in each area is as follows and should be used as a guide only:
Crows feet: 12 – 24 units (both eyes)
Forehead: 10 – 20 units
Angry line: 14 – 20 units
The Botox will take approximately 3 days to start working. It takes approximately 14 days for you to notice the full effects of the Botox. On average the Botox will last 3 to 5 months and you will need to repeat the treatment as needed to keep the desired effect. In general the Botox will last longer if the treatment is maintained on a regular basis.
