Introduction

Up until recently people with active acne were treated only with topical creams and sometimes oral antibiotics. But new studies have shown that by using intense blue wavelength light can effectively destroy the P. acnes bacteria that causes acne – and in much less time than before.

The treatment is effective for people of any age with active acne. If you have acne scars, please read about Erbium laser (link to erbium).

The treatment

After a consultation with one of our doctors we can start the treatment. We target the infected area with intense blue wavelength light. This light creates oxygen that will destroy the acne bacteria without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Repeat treatment

To effectively remove the acne infection we need to do a series of sessions. Normally a course of sessions will take 4 weeks and consist of 8 short treatments. After 4 weeks you should expect around 80% improvement. The treatment is normally done without the use of any topical creams or antibiotics, but in some cases a combination can be done.

Side effects & after-care

The risk of side effects is minimal – especially if you follow the after-care advice given by your doctor. You can read more about after-care and side effects by following this link:
